It happens SO fast.Today, my son, Max, turned 6. Yep, he's the one in the black pants with his junk hangin' out. For those of you who know Max, this was just how he rolled--at all times--three years ago. He has never been afraid to be himself, and I so love that about my kid! That sweet one in the tutu to his right is his best pal, Maggie Rose. She was born one day before Max. At 3, Maggie was pensive and kind, and she still is. I remember her looking at Max with a sort of befuddled amusement as her buddy would race around the room on all fours, and there was no question that Maggie adored and accepted Max absolutely. Their friendship was, and still is, a beautiful thing to witness.
Now, three years later these goofballs are all arms and legs, minus the squishy parts, plus a little attitude. What's the same is their love for each other. I've been feeling a little sad about my baby suddenly growing up so fast, but I'm comforted by the steadfastness of the sweet friendships he has cultivated. These kids are growing up fast, but at least they're doing it together. Today I am so grateful to be Max's mom, and equally grateful that he has a pal by his side who has loved him no matter what. My heart just might "esplode," as my youngest would say. Happy birthday, Max and Maggie Rose!
